Christian Cailleaux

Author of comic strips, illustrator and poor trumpet player like his hero of "Imposters" (Casterman 2005), Christian Cailleaux lived for fifteen years between Africa, Quebec and France, and began his career as an author in the Generation Dargaud collection. (two books now out of print) before producing two albums alone for the same publisher. Since then, the journey has continued from country to country, from album to album. Between a novel cover and a jazz record cover, he likes to tell stories of departures, to Africa, the Indian Ocean, India... and develops a universe between clear line and graphic freedom.

Still about seas and distant lands, he embarks - literally and figuratively - on the ships of the French navy with the one who will become his friend, the actor-writer Bernard Giraudeau, for the album "R97". Then he entered the prestigious Aire Libre collection of Dupuis editions to evoke Boris Vian by drawing "Piscine Molitor" with his friend and screenwriter Hervé Bourhis. It is in this same collection that he continues his collaboration with the late Bernard Giraudeau by publishing in 2011 "Les Longues Traversées". In 2013, he realizes a BD-Reportage telling his embarkation to Antarctic sea with "Marins d'eaux dures", published in the N°1 of LA REVUE DESSINÉE, then integrated into the album "Embarqué" (Futuropolis 2015 ). In early 2017, the biography of Jacques Prévert, conceived with Hervé Bourhis, was published: "Jacques Prévert is not a poet" (Aire Libre). In 2018, Timothée de Fombelle and Gallimard offered him a magnificent thriller that flew over the roofs of the Paris Opera to New York buildings to compose "Gramercy Park", before leaving on a scientific mission for TARA Expeditions with the " Cahiers de la mer de Chine" (Aire Libre).

In 2020, he returns to his roots in the clear line to draw with Étienne Schréder the twenty-seventh episode of the adventures of Blake and Mortimer, "Le Cri du Moloch", written by Jean Dufaux. We find him again in the Jacobs universe in 2023 with the publication of "La Flèche ardente", the sequel to "Le Rayon U" scripted by Jean Van Hamme and co-drawn with Étienne Schréder.

The same year also marked his return to the seas with the adaptation, with José-Louis Bocquet, of Georges Simenon's first novel: "Le Passager du Polarlys".
